Pineapple Progress

I was able to play in my room for a short while this weekend.  I'm not sure where the time goes, but I haven't been able to do a lot of sewing lately.  Today I made another pineapple block.  That probably doesn't sound like progress to you, but my new goal is to make two or three blocks every month.  At least that's my goal today.  As you know, I have a short attention span.  Very short.
The blocks are looking a little muddy.  After looking at a black and white picture of the blocks, it looks like I'll need to work on the contrast a little more.
Karen and I began making Pineapple blocks at the same time.  After we each made our first block, we were afraid we had jumped in over our heads.  We even discussed making giant potholders from the existing blocks and pretending like it never happened.  "What Pineapple blocks?"  Right after that conversation, I found this pattern by Debra Roberts in the August 2010 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting.
Pretty, huh?  Since I had all my bright fabrics handy from making the Pineapple blocks, I had to try this one using some of my scraps.
Now what was I saying?  Oh, right.  Short attention span.

Have a great week!
Kim

  1. Don't feel lonely in that short attention span room...I think I am there with you.

    Love your pineapple blocks.

  2. The pineapple blocks aren't muddy, they are scrappy. As the mediums get mixed in it isn't a black/white type contrast but a softer one instead. I have some pineapple blocks started too. I'm having a hard time going back to them.

  3. Busy doesn't even describe the past two weeks and it isn't going to get any better and you know why. I'm going to be using the telephone this week.

You may have been writing about me and not yourself. Ever walk into a room and say to yourself "why am I here?"
Your blocks look great scrappy but the middle coming together of the blocks does look planned. Did you plan for the same colors to meet? You sure make fun blocks and have great fabrics!

  6. Your blocks are great! I like the idea of seeing them in B&W...need to remember that trick in the future. And I know what you mean about short attention span...me too! I can't seem to work on just one project at a time.

  7. You're making me look bad, don't get too far ahead of me LOL. The pineapples look wonderful!! Really. I'm going to go back to mine soon. And those little blocks just make me smile :). Maybe doing two blocks at once will keep you from getting bored. (Love the new header!)

  8. Love the pineapple blocks - if you don't like them just send them to me. Wait I do need one more so get busy and then send them to me. LOL

I'm quite smitten with your scrappy blocks from the pattern in the magazine. Very cute.

  9. I love your pineapple blocks and don't think they look muddy at all! I'm attention span challenged over here too. Maybe that's why the pineapple quilt I started ahem, 6 or 7 years ago, doesn't even have one block completed. Maybe I should try your approach of one or two blocks a month.

  13. I love both of your projects. After seeing the b&w photo I agree that maybe more contrast is necessary.
Such fun happy colors you are working with!!

  19. I have always been so intimidated by pineapple blocks. I think you are wise to not rush the process of making them, and just do a couple every now and then. It will be so beautiful when the quilt is done.

  24. I have made one of those pineapple blocks before and they do take a while so you are doing great. I made the one to go in a charity quilt that a group of us were making. Great way to use those scraps.

  25. Gosh Kim, I like both sets of blocks. The pineapple ones are wonderfully scrappy. Short attention span...not all all. Simply the creative process in action! Cheers, Ann :-)
