My New Toy

I'm not a smartphone user.  Actually, I'm barely a cell phone user.  My cell phone is almost 10 years old and stays turned off in the bottom of my purse.  I freely give my number to anyone who asks, with the caveat that, unless I'm expecting your call, you probably won't get an answer.  I think I could set up a voice mailbox, but haven't.  I think I can send text messages by pressing the numeric keys.  Life is way too short for that.  I leave the phone on while traveling so my husband can reach me.  He thought it would be entertaining to change the ring tone on my antique phone from the sound of a bell to Vivaldi's The Four Seasons.  I missed his call while I was thinking to myself, "I wish someone would answer that dang phone already.  How annoying."

My husband has been using an android tablet for a while now.  When he heard that Google was introducing the Nexus 7, he pre-ordered one for me.  I waited for almost a month before it shipped, but since it arrived, I've only put it away long enough to charge the battery, and make this cover so it won't get damaged in my purse.  (There's a lot of stuff in there.)  It still needs a closure on the tab, but it's good enough for now.  I can't believe all the stuff I've missed while I've been carrying around my antique phone.

I've had a Pinterest account forever, but didn't get into it for a long time.  The mobile view on the tablet is so much better, though, and I get so sidetracked when I should be doing other things.  I'm sure I'll get bored with it evntually.  At least I hope so.  At some point I'll need to resume my life.  But in the meantime, if you're a Pinterest user, let me know where to find you, and I'll stalk follow you.

Hope you're all having a good weekend.  I'll be using my tablet to look up specs on smartphones.  :-)

Kim

LOVE the spots!!! I have an antique phone too. May be old but it rings. :o) I don't smart phone, iPad, tweet, text, facebook, instagram, or Pinterest. I'm just content to live in my polka dot world. Have fun with your new toy.

I was exactly like you with mobile phones until I got a smart phone. It's the only one that's ever made sense or been easy to use. I love the polka dot cover.

Congrats on the fancy gadget :-)I have a Samsung S3, and I keep it only an arm length away all the time... But it's great to use for facebook, blog reading and stuff. But I wish I could use less than I do with it... I should sew instead :-) LOL :-)
Wish you a great new week :-)

We have a TracFone -- for traveling and +important messages only. Like Stephanie above, none of the social interaction and instant messaging for me either.
I know what I'm missing, and I don't mind. It's not for me. I prefer my social involvement to be face to face with people, giving them my full attention, listening to them.
I'm glad you're enjoying your new toy. Too funny about your husband changing the ring tone -- and I love those dots!

if you have learned to use this tablet you should definitely get an Android based smart phone. It will be your new best friend!

I upgraded to the iphone 4. It is much nicer than my old one. I can get into my Pintrest,
Facebook and Instagram accounts. I can even pick up where I left off on my Nook reading.

Congratulations on your new toy. I'm still using a cellphone, but I can't be all bad, since I do have a Pinterest acct. Okay, I'll admit, it is my new toy, but I've pinned millions of quilts on it already.

My first cell phone was an iPhone but once I got my iPad I now use the iPhone only as a phone! But I love my iPad like a new baby. I now never use my computer for anything except word processing/printing.

When someone accidentally sat on my 6-month old iPad at a Christmas party last year, I was devastedly depressed, like I had lost my best friend. But the wonderful folks at the Apple store wouldn't even let me finish my tearful tale, just took mine away and gave me a brand new one, which automatically reloaded all my stuff from iCloud in about 5 minutes! Thank you, Steve Jobs!

I love downloading patterns on my iPad now that a lot of designers are offering that option. Instant gratification while shopping for inspiration. You'll love your tablet!
