Yep. 50. That's how old I am now. I recently celebrated yet another birthday. It wasn't so bad, except for the voice mail messages from a company selling safety alert buttons. Because people my age tend to fall frequently. My husband couldn't wait to show me the mail when I received not one, but two, mailers from AARP. I told him my next husband is going to be a lot nicer.
My friend
Karen surprised me with the most beautiful quilt. Here's a picture of Mini Trail Mix.
And a few closeup pictures of the fabrics and quilting.
I really love the Baptist Fan quilting in the border.
Thank you so much, Karen. You made turning 50 a little easier. I treasure your friendship.
Kim
Hope your birthday was very happy Kim!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful gift from Karen.
What a beautiful gift. Happy Birthday! I just turned 50 too.
ReplyDeleteYou're still a youngster my dear! But what a wonderful 50th birthday gift from a true friend! I hope to never have to join AARP, and I'm past retirement and medicare age. Never give in!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Your new quilt is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! What a wonderful quilt to celebrate with! ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday and welcome to the club :-) I think 50 is the perfect age! We still have good health and wisdom to enjoy it. Your birthday quilt is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! I've heard 50 is the new 30...so have a wonderful year!
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was about to turn 50, and grizzling about it all. A young woman working with me commented that she just wanted to reach 50, as no woman in her family had done so. It really puts things in perspective.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the achievement!
Happy Birthday a tad late. Your gift is pretty! I too had received AARP and it keeps coming!
ReplyDeleteA fabulous present for sure...happy 50th.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! What a great gift! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI hope you've had a nice Christmas, and I'm looking forward to follow you in 2013 too.
Wish you a Happy New Year!
Hugs
A wonderful birthday gift from Karen. Love it, love it!
ReplyDeleteThat AARP mail will fill your mail box for years to come. Happy 50th!
Welcome to the club. Happy Birthday to you. What a special gift from Karen. Wishing you a fantastic new year.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you! Beeing 50 is great..welcome to the club!
ReplyDeleteHappy 50th birthday!! The quilt is beautiful and such a treasure from a quilting friend.
ReplyDeleteAARP is relentless. Let me know if you want to know how I got them to stop sending me and my husband junk mail.
Happy 50th and congratulations on finding and keeping such a fabulous friend who would send you such a great present. I am nearly Medicare age and I have to tell you, the older you get, the more outrageous you are allowed to be (it's almost expected of you). There ARE limits, of course, before the family starts having you tested or stages an intervention, but a little strategic eccentricity will go a long way :D
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy Birthday, to you!! The way I look at it, you are in your 50's now so you get to do more of what YOU want to do!!! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHappy 50th Birthday, young lady! (sent from a lady who saw 50 come and go WAY too many years ago).
ReplyDeleteAARP is relentless, once they get your name. Such a waste of trees!
Just wait till you approach Medicare age, and every insurance company in the Northern Hemisphere starts sending junk re: their supplemental plans. I've learned to be a speedy, efficient recycler of all that stuff.
Enjoy your BDay! Enjoy your age! and give that Nana Girl a big hug from those of us who know her from her blog. She's a sweetie, and the quilt is gorgeous!
Belated congratulations. I hope you had a great day Kim, despite your DH!
ReplyDeleteHappy 50th, Kim! It's only a number, keep the creativity going and you'll enjoy it. I do LOVE your birthday quilt, Karen is so sweet ~

I am so glad I was able to be a part of this special milestone. I think you will find a different kind of freedom in this new decade. I am so thankful for our friendship and the miles we have travelled together. May Mini Trail Mix always remind you of those days.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a very happy belated birthday! Karen's quilt is really beautiful, the type of quilt that you'll see different things in it at different times. Such a special gift.
ReplyDeleteI'd have an extra birthday if it meant receiving a gift like this in the mail :) Happy 50th! I'm a year ahead of you.
ReplyDeleteHappy happy birthday, glad to see you joined the club!
ReplyDeletelove the quilt Karen made , great fabrics :)
Kathie
Beautiful quilt! and welcome to a fabulous decade. I LOVED my 50s. Getting over that number, 50, was the hardest part. After that... FUN! It was a decade of reflection, remembering, and pondering, and finally feeling more settled in myself and wiser. Wonderful. And guess what. I recently turned 60. Gulp. That was even harder to take than 50! But I'm hoping for another great decade.
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday! Your quilt is beautiful -- and well-deserved for the birthday girl!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Love the quilt. 50 isn't bad at all.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, happy birthday! You know, I always say it's better than the alternative! I love your comment back to your husband. Here's the secret.....marry a guy who's 13 years older than you, like I did. Hee hee. I just get to give him crap instead! haha!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love that quilt your friend gave you! It's really quite striking. What a nice friend!
Happy Birthday :-) What a lovely gift from Karen!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Hope you had a good one.
ReplyDeleteI missed your birthday??? OMgosh! Happy birthday to you Kim! That is so exciting! It's not how old you are but how young you feel... right? Sending you wishes for a wonderful year ahead! And take those discounts with AARP, I started telling people I wanted the senior discount when I was 47!
ReplyDeleteOh NO! I missed your birthday - I'm so sorry. I hope it was wonderful and fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed the 50 so welcome to the 50's. It's going to be an incredible ride. :-)
Such a nice article. It's a really informative and useful article. I appreciate your effort in a few close-up pictures of the fabrics and quilting. Keep sharing more articles with us.
