Working Hard

No sewing for me this weekend. I've been organizing a closet. You'd think it wouldn't take all weekend, but those who know me (and love me anyway) won't be surprised. Among other things, I had to stop for a while and enjoy some of my quilts as I re-folded them. I snapped pictures of a few of them to share with you.

The basket quilt is one of the first quilts I designed when my husband bought me EQ5 software. I'm ashamed to say that I forgot to add a label to the back, and I can't remember how long ago I worked on it. 2003?
The Carpenter's Wheel was given to me by my Aunt Bobbie, who found it at an estate sale. I love the Baptist Fan quilting all over it. It only has a couple of places that need to be repaired. As soon as I gain enough confidence to do it properly, I plan to repair it and let it live with her for a while. Maybe. :)

And this is a quilt I've been working on (in small doses) for a few years. The pattern is from Glad Creations (Mix 'n Match Stars). I used a little of all the Folk Art Christmas lines from Moda. These are still some of my favorite Christmas fabrics. The quilt is huge, but not quite bed-size. I'm not sure why, but I decided to hand-quilt it. In the ditch. Now you know why I'm still working on it. I've considered ripping out the stitching and machine quilting it. Still thinking.
Hope you enjoy the pictures. Gotta get back to work now.
Kim

Beautiful quilt show! The baskets are particularly nice. I hope to sew some baskets this year. And I agree that Folk Art fabric is wonderful. Happy re-organization :-)

I love Carpenter's Wheel. Thanks for sharing it.

A lot of people put both hand and machine quilting in the same quilt: ditch quilting by machine and highlighting areas with hand quilting.

Love pictures...and yours no exception! The Christmas quilt is wonderful...absolutely!! How much hand quilting do you already have in it?
Also I love the tall baskets in the one quilt. But then I like baskets.

Beautiful quilts. I tend to go down memory lane when I clean out closets that hold things like this too. Could you give me more information on EQ5 software? I'd love to personalize mine a bit more with the design. Thanks. Cindy

Is it possible to buy the pattern for the basket quilt? It's wonderful. Your Carpenters Wheel is such a classic and definitely on my to-do list. The *Christmas* quilt is fabulous - both the pattern and fabrics. Ann :)

Oh how I love baskets. Pretty quilt too that your aunt found. Sad when these quilts are unloved but so great when they find new homes. I'm terrible at labeling but am trying to do better.!

OH!!! Don't pull out all the stitches!! You put in so much work already! I know. It sometimes takes me a year or more to hand quilt a project. I keep thinking it shouldn't take that long but they do. You will be so proud of it when you are done! It is a beautiful quilt! I love the Carpenter's Wheel and baskets quilt also.

What a treat! The basket quilt really grabbed my attention. I think because it's one of the first quilts you designed, too. That makes it extra special. I looked at that amazing C-Wheel and though "Gee, I want to make one of those." But oh boy Kim, your Christmas Quilt is amazing. I'm glad you're hand quilting it. Makes it that more comfy for the holiday when its first used.

Thanks for sharing some of your work!

I was doing the same thing this weekend--cleaning out closets and cleaning up my bedroom! The carpenter's wheel quilt is something special, and I just love the baptist fan quilting, one of my very favorite quilting designs. Lots of piecing in that Christmas quilt, and what a cool border. Oh my, hand quilting in the ditch. I love hand quilted quilts but decided it wasn't for me, else I might never get to sleep under any of my quilts. Isn't there a book out now about doing hand and machine quilting in the same quilt? I sure wouldn't rip out any stitching!

This is the first time I've visited your blog, very nice. As for the hand quilting, I will use both on a top. Finish the ditch by machine and hand quilt the areas that show. Thats what I do now.
