Leftovers Again – This Time With Photos

Do you have little bits of leftover 2 1/2” strips and charm squares?  What do you do with them?

I'm playing around with a couple of things, and I've cut the leftovers into smaller pieces (ugh!) for a wildly scrappy quilt. Here's a sample of some of the fabrics. Maybe a solid white background to pull it together?

My friend Kathy has a new blog (Needle Delights Originals)! Kathy is a fellow quilting guild member, but she also designs counted needlepoint, and owns and operates a needlework store. I haven't tried counted needlepoint, but I'm in love with her designs that look like quilts. Like this one:

Original Stitched

Her brick-and-mortar store is in Pensacola, Florida, but she also has an e-store here. So if you love needlepoint, quilts, or both, stop by and take a look.

Have a great week!

Kim

Great, this is much better. Your friend is a true artist with needlework, really pretty. Not sure what to do about leftover strips and charm packs. I will be watching to see what you come up with and will think on it also, lol.

I need to get my scraps in some kind of order too. Will have to see what you do with yours.

Thanks Kim for the link to your friends store, I'm on my way to check her out ... I'm always looking for needle-worked quilt patterns :) Also, if you develop a pattern to use leftover bits from jelly roll and charm squares, I'm all over it, baby! Let me know the wheres and whens and I'm buying it! :)

I'll never get my scraps organized, I've got to many! But I'm trying, and that's a start ;o)
I haven't got to start working with any projects from your new book yet, but I will when I get to add some more light fabrics to my stash. They are the only ones which seems to be uses up :o)
I went to see your friends blog. Awesome!!! Love the designs, and will order some from her. I have been doing a lot of embroidery earlier every now and then. And it's fun too.
Wish you a great week, and hope you'll get to play with your scraps :o)
Hugs,
Laila

Right now all I have done is tackle cutting scraps that are smaller than a fat quarter into 5 inch squares and 2.5 strips or squares. That is often something I do after work if I am too tired to sew. I separate them into light and dark, squares and strips, and really truly am planning to use them in scrap quilts.

Sometimes I put the little bits in a ziplock never to be touched again. I'm sure you are coming up with something fun.

You have a pretty scrap pile! Mine all end up in a bin. I should be neater and organize them. Very beautiful quilty needlepoint.

Scraps???? What are scraps??? LOL You already know what I do with MY scraps. Can't wait to see what you're doing with yours.

The counted needlepoint design is beautiful - your friend is very talented.

Hmmm...looks very interesting. I was just doing some scrap cutting today.

The needlepoint is nice, but, then, I like just about anything that looks like a quilt.

I'm on pins and needles (wink) waiting to see what you do with these scraps, Kim! I have LOADS of them and can't part with a single piece! I even clip my dogears into decorative jars to place around my studio for "interest". I also do a little counted cross stitch and will jump right over to your friends e-store - thanks for the link!
Cheers!

Thanks so much for showing Kathy's needlepoint. My heart skipped a beat when I saw it! The colors, yes, my favorites. The pattern, yes, I'm a quilter. But mostly because my late mother made a number of needlepoint pieces based on quilt designs and Kathy's piece brought back wonderful memories. Thank you for that gift.

Kathy is a true artist. It's wonderful seeing all her creations. Thanks so much for the link.

Your scraps are so much prettier than mine. I'm sure you'll find a wonderful way to use them.

Hi, I just made the Paddle Wheel quilt from you new book. I used my "old fabric" scraps. Looks great! I've have started to cut up leftovers for "Kitchen Sink" from your first book. But 220 lights, ugh! I store my bits and pieces in a box or canister according to their size. I've made lots of 4, 9, & 16 patches and made them into a quilt and donated the finished quilt or top. I think solid white with your leftovers will be fabulous! Kathy's needlepoint design is beautiful. It really took me back. I worked in a needlepoint and knitting shop for several years.

Hi Kim, I subscribe to the Bonnie Hunter Scrap Saver's System, and that works well for me. Whatever you do with them, I'm sure it'll be gorgeous.I really liked that Spider Web from several posts ago. What a departure from the fabrics in Scrap Basket Surprises! You look like you're really having fun.

Kathy's work looks like counted canvaswork. I've been doing that off and on for a few years and really enjoy it. Faster than regular needlepoint. Love her design!

Bonnie Hunter of quiltville.com is the QUEEN of scraps and her scrap user's system! ;) I have all 3 of her books but the one "Adventures with Leaders and Enders" is the best one to get you movin and groovin with all those scarps! She shares her best trick of making a bonus quilt while working on your current project.
