Has it really been that long?

It was never my intention to take such a long break from here.  I've been working on a big project, while still working at what Sinta calls my "big-girl job."  The days turned into weeks, the weeks into months, and people began e-mailing to ask, "Where are you?!!"  Thank you so much to all of you who have e-mailed or called.  If I haven't responded to your e-mail yet or haven't visited you to see what you've been up to, it won't be long, I promise.  Things are almost back to normal, or at least as normal as things can get.

I'm working on class sample blocks this weekend for the Quilt Symposium of Alabama next week.  If you're there, please stop by for a visit.  I'm dying to check out the quilt show.  

And when I get back, I'll give you an update on my progress with these.

And maybe my plans for this little fat eight bundle of Lucy's Crab Shack.  Such perfect beachy prints by Sweetwater.  I'm smitten with the tiny T-shirts.

Snippets Honey Bun

My last post included a photo of a Snippets Honey Bun which I've recently cut into tiny little pieces. I really didn't want to cut it, but I was sure it wouldn't turn into a quilt by itself! I added some white background fabric, and here's the beginning of my new quilt.Don't you love these fabrics? The blocks will be rearranged as more are added. I'll post more pictures later as it grows.

The Most Beautiful Mail I Ever Received

Look what was in the mail when I got home! It's a postcard from Ingrid. She painted it, sewed it, wrote a note on the back, and mailed it! Is that cool or what? She's such a sweetheart. By the way, she has a newly-designed blog. You can visit her here.

I've been staring at the cutest little bundle of happy fabric for days now, trying to decide what to do with it. It's a Snippets Honey Bun by American Jane. I thought if I stared at it long enough, something would come to me. But it didn't. Until I unrolled it. Unrolling a Honey Bun is a little like cutting into a new piece of fabric. It's almost painful for a second or two. But when I laid out the strips next to each other, I knew exactly what to do with it. You'll have to come back later to see how it works out -- it's all in my head right now!

Moda Jelly Rolls

On April 27, I will be giving a lecture/trunk show for the Pensacola Quilters Guild using quilts from my new book, all made from 2 1/2" strips. Even saying it makes my knees a little shaky! I'm not nervous at all about one part of the presentation, though. Lissa sent me a package with the most wonderful variety of Moda Jelly Rolls that I'll be giving away as door prizes! The picture (below) doesn't come close to representing the beauty and quality of these fabrics. I want to unroll all of the bundles and play with the fabrics, but experience has taught me that I can't roll them back up as neatly as the smart people at Moda. (I'd really like to know how they do that.)

Anyway, here's a picture of the Jelly Rolls: Nostalgia by April Cornell, Gypsy Rose by Fig Tree Quilts, Objects of Desire by Sandy Gervais, and Urban Couture by Basic Grey.
